I know it has been awhile, but I was just watching Serenity again and I noticed something interesting. The writing for Wash is especially thin. He makes a couple jokes and makes the plot device observations in a strange, shiny voice. And then he dies. It's almost as if they don't want you to like him, or be interested in him so they can kill him off. Very sacrificial character, very weird...
