You need to install sound card drivers.
Go to your device and drivers control panel thing, see what sound card you have- it will most likely have a question mark or big red x on it to say theres an error.
As long as you get the name of the sound card you had before, you can google it and download the needed drivers.
I had the same problem on my PC ages ago when I reinstalled windows, so it should fix it.
