i applaud you. Good luck wit the book. "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" is one of my favorites probably because of how crazy Claude Frollo was. He seriously needed to be put in a straight jacket
What a great story! Gringoire is one of my favourite characters in all the literature I've read, which is one of the reasons I can't forgive the Disney movie. D:
Combining Clopin and Gringoire and making them into a.. Jester? No fair no fair!

Frollo is a wonderful character, too. Straight jacket indeed!

There's a fantastic musical called Notre Dame de Paris with a powerful cast including Bruno Pelletier ().
If you like the story, I highly recommend it.

HG Wells and Stienbeck make my list.
One of my favourite book purcheses EVAR was a paperback of War of the Worlds which had, stuck in a little envelope, a CD with a recording of Orson Welles' original radio broadcast.
SO COOL.

>_<
Anyways, anyone know if this is Really that good? I wana read it but, I wana make sure its worth it.

The book I'm gonna read is Dantes Inferno. I need a challenge. Older books are nice to read because you get a taste of history in the writing styles. =]

I'm never sure of the definition of "classics", but one of my favorite books of all time is "The Phantom of the Opera" by Gaston Leroux. I will admit I read it orginally simply because of the musical, but I greatly enjoyed the book, too. Um, I liked "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" and "Les Misarables", although, again, with the last one I read it originally because of the musical. Also mentioned in this thread was "The War of the Worlds", which I absolutely love.

In trying to think of something to mention, I remembered my love of Sherlock Holmes. I read I think nearly all the orginal Sir Arthur Conan Doyle books several years ago. I think I was about ten, which shows you how much I love to read...

I'm reading Jane Eyre again, and it has got to be my favourite book of all time. I love the Bronte's work--I find that it really draws me in.
I can't remember the name of the book, but I believe it was by Charlotte Bronte and was about their time at their school in Cowan Bridge (I live near there...OMG). When I was about 11 I read a few chapters; I really liked the one about their illness and death- Chapter 13 I think. I know that maybe you'd call me morbid, but I liked it.

My dad, has just called "Wuthering Heights"...Withering Heights. He's so clueless.

I'm looking forward to Tim Burton's film version of this. Have you watched a trailer for it, yet? Johnny Depp looks well and truly bonkers as the Mad Hatter
