I dont believe 2012 at all. If i remember right, didnt they say that 2000 was going to be the end of the world too? If you ask me, there bringing up 2012 so people will just freak out, go buy a bunch of crap and live the rest of there lives happy. And by people buying so much stuff, that would help bring the economy back up.

But thats just a theory of mine.

I wasn't being entirely serious, but to address those ideas, how would someone get killed by a dealer? If they don't have the money, they don't get the drugs. I disagree about the teenagers thing; I know fair amount of adults who still smoke marijuana (and besides, Brickenridge, Colorado just made marijuana legal; it's likely most of the US will follow suit). People would steal regardless of drugs. Knowing what happened with 1999/2000, people would spend most of their money on essential items. And besides, there's plenty of over-the-counter things people can misuse to get the same effect.

Once you stop having enough money to buy teh drugs, you start borrowing it from other people, or you start dealing it yourself. Eventually, you owe people money, and you end up in a lot of trouble.

I could see that being a possibility, but not being as likely. Again, there's a lot of OTC stuff one can get to achieve the same effects.
When I said they made it legal, I mean for any use, be it recreational or otherwise. It was passed by a vote ratio of 3:1 last Tuesday.
Again, I wasn't really being serious about that statement. The common joke is that people who smoke marijuana calm down and mellow out, which is what I was referring to. But on a serious note, it's impossible to say one way or the other without some kind of source or research backing that statement (that getting high would raise crime rates).

Drug use and addiction is linked to at least half of the major crimes in this country, as at least half of the suspects arrested for violent crimes, such as homicide and assault, were under the influence of drugs when they were arrested.

So if you increased the amount of people using drugs, and kept the same percentage, you'd increase the major crimes commited.
