In Sonette Ehlers, South Africa (rape capitol) of the world, they are coming out with a new female condom which would (hopefully) prevent rape.
The condom would be inserted into the women, and is equipped with 25 teeth so when the rapist puts his penis inside he cannot take it out without taking out a significant part of his penis as well. Also, once on the penis the guy would have to go to the hospital to get it removed which could help in finding the rapist and leading to more arrests being made.

Now there are two flaws that people see so far: Will this really incapacitate a rapist, or will it just piss him off to the point where he might kill his victim? And what if a woman forgets to remove it before having sex with her husband/boyfriend, will it cause more innocent injuries?

Also, how would women know when to wear one? Or would they just wear one all the time, or just in high risk situations? Like during the night time, while walking home alone.

Anyway, I think these work in theory. I think it probably will hurt A LOT, and enough for the rapist to give the woman time to get away from him, or at least find a weapon to fight him with. As for the husband/boyfriend problem, I'm not sure how that could be solved.

So, thoughts? Opinions?

Well, as for pushing the rapist to kill his victim, no, I don't think so. He will need assistance to get his penis out anyway - who would want to go to the hospital with a corpse attached to his penis? I think that measure might really be efficient towards rapists and also to scare away potential rapists.

I think each woman will decide for herself where and when to wear one, personally I would wear one only in high-risk situations.

And about forgetting to remove it, sorry, but it just seems rather unprobable to me. You don't forget to take off your shoes when you come home, do you? Well, same here. Most likely, the women will just take those off when they arrive home.

This condom is making me think of the movie Teeth. But anyway, it is a defense for women seeing how men are psychically stronger than us. But there will be times when accidents like husband/boyfriend thing will occur. Not to mention if this becomes popular there could be a chance that men would stick other objects in there to see if she is using one and would remove it.

it is a good idea in principle though people would find a way around it, also would it be uncomfortable for the woman to wear?

Well, the way I see it, most rapists aren't too worried about what is or is not being worn when they are about to rape someone. It seems more like an impluse then anything else, so I don't know that every rapist will check every time BEFORE they try to rape someone.

As for it to be comfortable to the woman, it seems like the teeth are on the inside, and otherwise it's just like a female condom, which means that it shouldn't hurt when they put it in.

But how do they take it out?

I think it's a great invention. I mean, if it helps catch some rapists and saves some women, well, get that baby patented!

I think that if a woman goes with her partner who has the device stuck onto him by accident, and gives a written form in and says that it was an accident, he should be let go. But I think that such a device should be able to be used as evidence of rape.

Oh, I remember this thing. Since the blades are inside the condom, it doesn't hurt the female. Always thought it was interesting. As for whether or not it should be used, I'd leave it up to the individual. Considering all the horrible and strange rape stories I hear coming from various parts of Africa, it might do some good.
