| "Last year, Barack Obama inspired legions of young people to become politically involved. Hordes of students in high school, college and graduate school knocked on doors and set up Facebook pages to garner support for a candidate who offered a fresh viewpoint, welcomed by our generation. The rallying cries of hope and change banded us together, making it cool to wear Barack Obama T-shirts and order Barack O-Bombs at the bar. But now, a year later, it seems this first foray into the reality of politics has doused the fire of my generation's idealism with a bucket of cold water." -The Baltimore Sun I am under the impression that many people around my age (the ages between 15-17) aren't really interested or involved in politics. And why should we be, right? What does it matter if you understand president Obama's health care plan, or what "distribution of wealth" really means when your not deemed old enough by the governments standards to vote or have an opinion anyway? I have become more interested in politics because I am 17 so obviously I'll be able to vote next year and I don't want to be an ignorant voter. I watched all the campaining last year for the presidential election, and watched all the candidates be interveiwed on MTV and whatnot. I was actually pulling for Ron Paul to win but as good as his ideas were, we all knew pretty much knew he wasn't getting it. Once the debate was down to only John McCain and Barack Obama I decided that had I been old enough to vote in that election, I would have just stayed home. I didn't want either of them to win and escpecially not Obama. I am neither Republican or Democrat because I agree with points from both sides. But in my opinion, Obama was one of the worst things to happen to our country. The whole "distribution of wealth" situation is completely ludacris. We live in a country where you make your own wealth. If you take the time to go to college for 10 years or however long a doctor goes and then become good at your profession, there is no reason why you should have to be critisized for it or taxed more because people less wealthy then you are complaining. In the same respect, the wealthy shouldn't be given a break on the taxes just because they make more. On one hand I understand that they can afford more taxes then the poorer classes, but does that make it fair or right to do so? And what if you use a more dramatic example like celebrities? I will admit in the next statement I am being a hypocrite because I enjoy movies just as much as everyone else but has anyone stopped to think about the fact that those people get paid millions of dollars to play pretend? Or how football players and baseball players get paid millions to do just that...to play a game? Im not saying these things should be done away with, because as I stated before I enjoy some of these things. But where do we draw the line? And if the wealthy should be punnished, then why not start with them?

Nikki_nano it seems to me that you just read my stuff to critisize me. As for the rest of you, I'm sorry reading is such an awful chore.

This would do a lot better in the controversy forum, where people go to read things that are like this. Open Board is more of a casual setting for posting games and stuff.
