| For a few years now (I believe) Quebec has wanted to seperate away from Canada and become it's own country. It hasn't happened yet and some people are proclaiming Quebec doesn't have the right to. First off I'll explain why they do have some rights too. In 1534 Jacques Cartier (french explorer) came and founded "the new world" now Canada and the USA. The French were there first. They OWNED the land. Ownership of the land seemed to shift back and fourth between the British and the French. In the end France got part of the new world and the rest was British territory. Quebec is now considered "New France" just as the rest of Canada is nicknamed "New England". If the French were there first and they OWN the land and it's France's territory then why is the rest of Canada against it being it's own country (leader wise not individual people)? It's NEW FRANCE. They were there FIRST. So why can't they become their own country? Some people see the issue with Quebec becoming it's own country would be there would be trouble with the connection between PEI/ Labrador and the rest of Canada. But isn't Alaska and the U.S.A seperated too? Why can't Quebec become it's own country? | |||||

Alaska is a state in America. Hawaii was wanting to do the same, separate from America and become its own country, but it never happened. I think that Quebec never will become its own country because for one it is to small, and when it gets in a war with another country it wont have enough military force to defend its self and eventually get overpowered.

I'm fine with Quebec leaving Canada just as long as they truely become independent. The worry in the West is that, were Quebec to separate, they'd still ask for Canadian assistance and Canada, being the pussy it is, would assent. We don't want to financially support another 'country'. But apart from that, if Quebec wants to separate, let them. Why should we care? I like Quebec and the Quebecois, don't get me wrong. That's why I think we ought to leave the decision up to the people. But the referendum was shot down and Quebec is still a province. They made their decision and as far as I'm concerned, that's the end of the discussion. Sorry if I sound like a redneck Albertan oil-driller.

Honestly, I think Cascadia is a pretty good idea. Won't happen any time soon but a girl can dream.

![]() Quebec certainly isn't geographically small, nor is it particularly small population-wise (nearing 8 million). Either way, who would get in a war with Quebec? Pretty much no one. When was the last time we've seen Canada in a war? I think Quebec would take the same peaceful route.
