I enjoy my type of "popularity".

Really, I'm just friends with everyone. Not the type you see in movies, wearing only pink and talking about everyone...

Anyways.
Pros: There's always a party to go to, Always people there to support you, Free lunch every once in a while (but that's really guys who do that, not girls...), People like me. :l

Or at least pretend.

Cons: Everyone knows "everything" about you (dumb gossip), Guys assume that I'm easy or I'm the Ice Queen, Having to remain neutral in every fight and so on to make sure no one's offended, People get offended when you don't show up to their parties, It makes saving time for school work hard.

Ehh. It does sound to flawed.

But, I'm not a geek, yet not popular. Lots of kids hate me because I'm "zomg so smarticallllll," and I refuse to do their homework for them....so, I usually stick to my range of zany, overzealous, eccentric kids who probably have already lost their sanity. O_0

so... Do you guys like being popular? Or not?
I'm not popular. Infact I've been labeled an outcast. I get straight A's and was given the title "Five minutes Poetry Queen" in my class (which is a good thing) for my poetry. The popular kids don't listen, get c's if I remember correctly overhearing them complain about their report cards and are always getting detention or suspended for being rude or mocking the teacher.

I guess I can see where they're coming from with the comment about the popular people having stuff handed to them and whatnot. And another point, most, I said most, not all, popular kids only care about being popular and cool. They don't care about their grades and stuff like that. Then when they get out into the real world, they're not prepared because coolness can only get you so far...

That was not how it was at my school. Some of the most popular people at my high school were also some of the smartest (a few were the smartest). If they were not acedemic, then they were usually snobs, who people said bad things about them a lot. The reason a lot of them were popular was because they were so well-rounded.

No scientific study would be that biased. Popularity isn't the problem. The problem is letting popularity get into your head.

I don't agree with the reasoning, I think the correct reason is that people tend to be popular because they are 'cool', because they don't do their homework, drink, smoke, lead, 'don't give a **** about teachers or anyone' and so on.
Those are bad characteristic for succeeding in real life. The dorks on the other hand, who aren't popular, never thought of thinking about smoking, do their homework, work at school and fail socially get the more interesting jobs.

With that - different things are appreciated as you grow, at a younger age it's often those things I mentioned while at older ages it may be success in work, being smart, friendly and so on. People who are bitchy and mean like popular teens aren't as accepted and liked.

This study is absolutely ridiculous really.

I can't be popular, or I've ****ed up my life?

That's stupid.
