My boyfriend moved here from Israel when he was 7 or so, is a grad student in political science, started/runs a non-profit foundation for gifted children, has done peacekeeping missions all over the world for the US, is incredibly well spoken in English (not to mention a large number of other languages), knows US history and the US political system better than the large portion of people that I know, and he still can't get his US citizenship after waiting for years. It baffles me how some people think it would be reasonable to expect some random uneducated, unskilled Mexican to get US citizenship.

Holy crap, really? You would think that Americans would be dying to have a person like this as a citizen.

And that's like saying to a druggie, "Ah, well, you've already bought the drugs and gotten away with it. Eh, you may as well use it."

Drugs =/= illegal immigration. Illegal immigration doesn't hurt anyone. Drugs do. Most of the people that come over here, are hard working people who have no criminal records in Mexico. Illegal immigrants contribute to the economy. They pay taxes, they go out to eat more often then american citizens, and they shop more.

| Yes, these are the kinds of things they look for when they are reviewing if you are eligible to get a visa, a green card, or a citizenship. Having a good education, speaking comprehensible english, knowing US history all helps the process. (Oh, and the loads of money people have to pay probably doesn't hurt either.) These are the kinds of people who are more likely to get whatever they are applying for, which is why so many people who are from Mexico get rejected. When you apply for a visa/green card/ citizenship they look for what YOU can bring to the economy.

You're failure to mention any other immigrants other than of the "brown" colour, makes it seem like a race issue to me. As well as if this was about "Illegal immigration," you would include ALL illegal immigrants. Not just the ones "south of the border."
