It's fun, but my computer's old, and it doesn't work very well with it. And it takes up a lot of space.

It is good, but I'm still mostly playing the Sims 2 because of the lack of expansions. The best thing for me about the Sims 3 over 2 is that each sim now has his or her own unique personality. You can set up to five personality traits for adult sims, and these dictate how that sim will act when he or she is not under player control. Also, certain personality traits can affect which social moves are available to your sim at various stages of a relationship, while others can affect how quickly your sim learns new skills. Also, the stylemaker is tres cool. While in the Sims 2 you pretty much had to make do with the colors/patterns/textures of build and buy mode objects, in the Sims 3 the player can customize the fabrics, prints, colors, and textures of almost all clothes and objects. I've been having a lot of fun with that, myself. Lastly, the create-a-sim mode is far more detailed than it has been in previous sim games. If you've played Oblivion or Fallout 3, imagine the slider bars that were available to customize facial structure. Also, the player can change overall hair color, hilights, tips, and roots individually, which makes for much more realistic looking hairstyles and colors. That being said, I also have a few complaints. First off, each sim continues to act individually, even when outside of the player's control. While at first this can seem like an improvement, it has been getting on my nerves as of late. Sims tend to make important life-changing decisions on their own, without the player's approval. One of my Sims got married while I was controlling another family. Another chose to adopt a child. Things like this make it difficult to run their lives the way that I would like to, and can be quite frustrating. Secondly, the player can't see the controlled sim inside of community buildings. This makes it impossible to control who your sim talks to when instructed to socalize inside of these buildings, as well as eliminiting some of my favorite aspects of the Sims 2, such as customizing nightclubs and restaurants. Finally, I'm fairly frustrated by the lack of build mode objects, especially by the removal of half-walls. Half walls were one of the most useful building tools in the Sims 2, and I am unable to recreate some of my favorite architectural creations from my previous Sims games. However, I'm sure more build mode tools will be included in future expansions. I can only hope that half walls are among them. Hope that helps. | |||||||
