I'm currently using a Toshiba lap top. Operating on windows Vista. Sound comes out of the speakers just fine, but when I plug in the headphones, sound continues to go through the speakers. When I plug in the headphones, no new devices appear in the playback management window. And, I'm displaying enabled devices. Info you might find important: Speaker properties: General- controller information: Realtek high defenition audio ........................Jack information: L R ATAPI Internal ATAPI Jack The audio is set to : "24 bit, 48000 Hz (studio quality) Manufactured by Dolby Laboratories I'm not sure hoe necessary that information was, but I decided to give it anyways. If anyone has any idea what i'm talking about, and can help, please do so. This is really annoying. .... Thank you in advanced.

I don't think your headphones will appear as a device. It maybe a compatability issue, though I have used many different types of headphones on many different types of laptops over the years without any trouble. Could it be your headphones no longer work? Tamm-me | |||||||

I dunno if it will help, but you can try licking the little thing on the end of your headphones before you plug it into the jack. It'll at least improve the conductivity.
