Default D: Someone help me with Java, please!

Okay, so my Java was just fine until 2 days ago, when Pogo.com told me mine was obsolete. So I think, "Well, okay, what harm can come from an upgrade?"
BIG MISTAKE.

I uninstalled my old Java (whatever came with my comuter, I didn't think to check what it was) &installed the newest one.
NOW IT DOESN'T WORK!
I did it exactly as the site instructed, uninstalling, re-downloading, restarting, checking that it was all enabled...

&now I'm stuck as a bee because I can't even use the MeezMaker!
Help, please?!

I've got Windows XP (2002) &Internet Explorer 8.

Go to Java's site and retest it. Sometimes you just need to test it again.

Retested; still not working.
Followed the link, did everything it told me to, like I've been doing for the past 2 days: Enabled it, deleted cache..
I don't know what's wrong with it!!

Try changing your browser to Mozilla (IE is more prone to crashing and what not. I've also heard that the latest java version works on IE 9)or maybe the problem is with your java script?
