Default how do u paste ur image on a background on gimp

I was wondering how do you paste your picture on to a background i cant do it :] can someone post me a tutorial of how todo fi theres any thanks

In Photoshop,
Make sure your meez has
A COMPLETELY white background,
Use the "Magic Wand" tool to click on the background,

Go to the "Select" menu in the top menu bar,
Click on "Inverse,"
Copy,
And paste it onto a new image with a background.

I'm sure it's similar in GIMP.
