Hey everyone, well, I got a few requests to do a tutorial for hair and here it is. Enjoy!
*Thanks Sophie for letting me use the closeup!*

Okay, first thing's first, open you image on Gimp.


Now, smudge the pixelation out of the hair. If you want to change the shape of the hair (adding length, bangs, etc.) now would be the time. Make sure you smudge not just the pixely areas, but everywhere. (Just for consistency.)



Okay, now use the color picker tool and find the darkest color on the hair. Make this color slightly darker, then make lines everywhere on the hair. Don't scribble and make sure you start making each line near a part or somewhere like that.



Finally, repeat the last step, except use the lightest color on the hair made slightly lighter. If you want to add more, make the lightest color even lighter and make lines where the hair is noticeably lighter.



There you have it!
