Default How to edit hair in Photoshop Elements.

So, people have been asking me," How do you do the hair!?!" I simply couldn't explain to them how I did it, so here, I will show, and try my best to explain how I did my meez's hair. :] And sorry if this is a horrible tutorial, I'm not master at explaining such things. :[

NOTE: I used a computer tablet, and photoshop elements. But you can use any other photo manip. Program to do this.

Materials:
  • A computer. (Of course)
  • A meez close up, or shot. Whatever would work best. I suggest a close up.
  • A photo manipulation program. Photoshop, GIMP, photofiltre, etc.
  • A mouse, and/or computer tablet.
Now, first off open up your program that you will use to edit this meez's hair.

Next, open the image, or simply copy and paste the image into your program.

Now, it's time for editing!!!

In this tut I will be using this image:

Now, I know the eyes are edited and stuff already, but that's now what we are focusing on right now.

So, now you have you image in your program all ready to use.

Next, you use a fuzzy brush. Don't use a very small brush for this step. We will use a bigger brush, a much bigger brush.

Something like this, or even smaller.

Then you pick a DARK color of the hair color your meez has. Except for black.

Then you go over the meez's pixely hair with that brush and make sure there is no show of that pixel hair.

This is the base color for the hair.

Something like this:

Then, you use a smaller brush, size 1-3.

And then you use a lighter color of the base. Like, let's see, two colors light or even one. And then take your brush and make "strands of hair."

Like this:

And continue to add lighter colors of the same color.

I go up to four colors, but it depends on the person and if they got the color of hair they want.

Now we have our shades.

But nope, we are not done yet! We need shadows.

On a seperate layer, take a nice size soft brush, around maybe 10-15 size brush.

Then set the opacity to a VERY low percentage. For black I use 4-6 depending on how dark I want the shadow.

Then move the new layer, below the base hair. (If you have not merged your hair layers together.)
And just out line the hair in black, BUT make sure that it's just the soft edge of the brush that is showing.

Then add a new layer, and put it on top of the hair layer, (Above the very first layer). And use the same brush, but maybe a little bit more bigger or smaller, which ever. And bump that opacity to 6-9. Depending again. And darken the roots, edges of the hair, and a tiny bit in the inside. Something like this image:

And then DONE! But there's something missing.

We need high lights of our color!!! :O

No fear, this is where the dodge tool comes in. :]

You take the dodge tool.

The one to the left. And highlight the "pink" areas. To make it, look more "metallic", or shiney.

Like so:

And now you are finally done!

Just add a background, and some writing and then you'll have a great poster in no time.

Finished Product.

If any quetions just shoot me a PM, or come see me in Meezer Contests.

NOTE!: I am not Piucca, I made this for a contest in the Meezer Contests. :]
