At lunch our table was a mess and by the time the final bell rung I felt horrible.
"So I'm coming to your house for food right?" Minnet hung onto my shoulders.
"...I have ballet after school"
She gaffawed.
As I neglected to mention I am the worst ballerina on the face of this Earth. Seriously. I can't do a proper cabrioleto save my life. A cabriole you see is an extremely complicated jump that is done at exactly 45 or 90 degrees. One leg up and the second leg against it making you go higher. I, instead of doing a successful jump, spiral off of the stage at about 20 degrees and into the audience.
My mother thinks that ballet will end my reputation for klutziness but it only gives me a reason to be laughed off the stage. I've gotten the hook so many times I think my old leotards still have that rotten tomato smell.
After my dear pal Minnet gets herself together she looks at me with a sad face.
"I really do feel sorry for you. Your mother shouldn't make you do this."
"But she does."
"I'll come with you."
"...Fine but don't laugh"
" I wouldn't even dream of it."

Behind the glass in the dance studio I can see Minnet doubled over in laughter.
I told her not to laugh.
These tights still fel like sandpaper and the tutu is starting to feel to tight. I trip and stumble into the other dancers until Madame Genevieve tells me to take a rest outside. I sit on the bench and watch the other dancers Brisé volé without embarrassing them-selves. Minnet sits beside me and I pointedly turn the other way.
"Are you mad?"
I grunt.
"You could always be the comic act before the dancers."
Another grunt accomanied witha swift kick to the shins.
"Do you want me to leave?"
"No."
"I'm still going to laugh."
I push her off the bench and head back inside.
"ZA! Hailey I have not told zu to come back inside! Go!"
"But Madame Genevieve I am ready."
A girl next to me coughs into her hand and shimmies away from me.
I glare at her.
"Please? I promise no accidents."
"ZA." she says in her French accent.
"Thank you!"
"I did not say yes I said za."
"Does that mean yes?"
"No."
"So what means yes."
"Yes means yes."
"So you meant yes not za?"
"No I meant za."
"No?"

"Yes?"
"Za."

"No."

"No."
"Is that a yes."
"YES!!!"
"Thanks!"
"Wait no I mean za! I mean NO!"
I stop mid pirroette and fall into the coughing girl who knocks down two other dancers who knock down more dancers. I watch from the floor, my ballerina dominoe set. When the last girl falls I blow my hair out of my face.
"Heh heh...Za?"
Madame Genevieve's face turns bright red.
"Zu vill get out now."
"Ok."
"Now."
"Za?"
"OUT!" she screams.
I grab my bag and Minnets arm and run through the exit.
Well God she didn't have to be so mean about it.
