I did not study much outer appearances though. The people I chose to associate with had plenty of different ethnics in them. Gavin was one that no one knew what he was. He didn't either. That's why he was my best friend. That and his unexplainable reasoning and logic. It put a spin to my personality.

Before I knew it, Gavin came up to me and ruffled my hair. He knew I hated it and loved watching me put it back in place urgently. I could not care what it looked like. I could chop it all off, or chemically change the color of it, or even just leave it messy. I fixed it anyways.

"So Adam. You know that chick Mariona? The new one?" I sensed he was talking to me so I shrugged. "She was totally checking me out in chemistry yesterday," he continued. "She winked at me. Do you know where she's from? Is she from Valcima? She really doesn't look like it. She's darker than you. Well kind of. Maybe it's the same. I think I might try to talk to her today." I knew he was over exaggerating himself because there was no way someone in class made contact with each other.

I laughed. "Gav, How would she get here if she wasn't from here? You know no one communicates from the other countries if they do exist. Never less she would actually come from one. You're ridiculous," I replied to him still laughing. He knew I was correct.

I once learned people got to different countries by planes or ships but I never knew what one was. I saw it on some chip I found under my couch. Who knows how it got there. I was sure there was no such thing as planes or ships any more. Communication from another country was impossible unless the country wanted to get blown to pieces by a nuclear bomb. And I'd never personally heard of contact from somewhere else.

"Oh no Adam. I know there are. My brother says there are. He knows everything. He said my grampa told him it didn't use to be like this. He said his great grampa had told him right before he died that America was going to lose the war and spiral downward. See, the history doesn't lie!" Gavin kept rambling as I walked into my classroom. I had a feeling that wasn't the last I would hear about that girl from Gavin. My first class of the day was "what jobs are ready for you?" It was taught to us using automatronic headsets. Of course, all of them were, but who's counting.
